I kind of subscribe to Theory that a person is smart and people are
stupid. Thus, while the Y2K bug might not precipitate much more than a lot
of electronic annoyances, public perception might be sufficient enough to
cause unpleasantly strong panic. That's enough justification for some
advanced preparation, though I don't necessarily see running for the hills
as the best option. But extra supplies and a good way to bolster the home
defenses isn't a bad thing. I also think that going out and getting the
Basic Handgun & Rifle training from the NRA is a good idea, not so much for
Y2K, but just in general, given how prevalent guns are in society. It seems
almost silly to not know how to safely handle & disarm a firearm.

As for your questions... I guess I'd have to learn farming in a hurry if I
was going to be away from civilization for 7 years.
