Sounds like one of our founders to me ... Except he had to hide out for
the rest of his life ... and many generations of his decendants had to
as well ...

The quick answer is training, taken in a general sense. Do you know how
to fish? Shoot a Bow and Arrow? Make rope from tall grass? The more you
know, the less you need. Do you know the test for plant edibility? If it
comes down to it, can you eat bugs? (Ant eating is an art not to be
taken lightly! ;)

Now it's always a good idea to have some "emergency prepartion" supplies
around the house ... a 36hr kit, a few months food ( a year is
suggested ) as a backup. Note that these are useful in *many* instances,
not just for a "seven year plan" -- unexpected bills won't mean choosing
between going without and paying, not worrying about that first "severe
snowstorm" and all those people jamming the supermarkets ... and those
pesky 36hr kits that you can get from any Red Cross are useful in many
"disasters" -- Floods, earthquakes, fires ...

Only intensity, I suppose. Perhaps "# of months food" would change as
well ...

Sure it is ... it's just that that horizon is a bit farther away than
people would like to think.

Okay ... alot.
