Here's some historical trivia I picked up over the years and thought I'd
share for fun.

*** This bears absolutely no relevance to martial arts training for real
life. ***

Fun Trivia about the Kukishin School

1. There are actually four Kukishin schools. In Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu and
To-Shin Do, we study two of the four...
a. Kukishinden Ryu Happo Biken - swordfighting school
b. Kukishin Ryu Kishin Tosui Ryu - just about everything and the kitchen
sink
c. Kukishin Ryu Tosui Kishin Ryu - about the same as the previous, but run
by a different family offshoot
d. Kuki Ryu - naval warfare

2. Like modern America, mergers happened from time to time in Japan. Two
Kukishin schools (the ones that later became part of To-Shin Do) were at one
point taken over and run by the Takagi Yoshin school (also a school that
later became part of To-Shin Do).

3. One of the four schools of Kukishin Ryu, the one that gave us the kata we
practiced at Festival 99, is about to turn 1,000 years old. It was founded
around the time of the Y1K problem.

4. The oldest school apparently got started in 754 AD, but either went out
of business or underground, and didn't come back until 1000 AD.

5. Among other things in the family scrolls, there's a lot of poetry.

Again, this trivia bears absolutely no relevance to learning how to deal
with problems in modern America, but it's kind of fun to look at after a day
of hard training, when you're ready to kick back with your favorite adult
beverage of choice and you don't want to watch TV.
