I think the other part of the problem is that for the really authentic
practitioners, it's very hard to transmit the art through the written
medium. Scrolls were hard enough, but trying to transmit useful
information via ASCII character sketches, i.e.:

doko no kamae?

You can imagine how long it would take, and how much bandwidth, just to
be able to explain a kamae in a fashion that wasn't completely
ridiculous.

As a person responsible for Internet information at my company, it's
very obvious that the Internet is great for transmitting information
that was designed to be read. Any other kind of information takes an
awful lot of arm twisting to be able to convey, and in many cases, the
Internet and its associated mailing lists are simply not the best
choice. Going directly to a good instructor is.

So, if we can't really transmit gobs of information about training,
there's not too terribly much left to discuss.

Obviously, this kind of begs the question, "Why The Quest List list?"
then. In my mind, at least for now, it's a great way of sharing
information about training opportunities. In addition to visiting all
the Quest sites, The Quest List is a good way for the many different
practitioners to keep in touch in a common forum, to make sure that
everyone knows about great seminars and great friends getting together.
